Registration of trademark in Liberia
If you made decision to conduct business not only in your country, but also abroad, you will need to register trademark for presenting your goods abroad.
There are two options for resolving the foregoing issue, namely: registering trademark in all countries where you plan to do business or carry out international registration.
In Liberia, there is the possibility of international registration, as the country is a party to the Madrid Agreement. In addition, trademark in Liberia can be registered according to national procedure and regional registration procedure.
The following are subject to legal protection in Liberia:
- Any graphic images;
- Numerical combinations and word combinations;
- Color and sound combinations;
- Slogans, holograms.
Submission of application for trademark registration is possible through the national office, as well as through the regional system.
The application undergoes only formal examination, as verification for identifying similar trademarks in Liberia is not carried out.
In the event that the application meets the imposed requirements, it shall be transferred to the national offices of all the listed countries for examination on compliance with the national trademark legislation.
The answer should be given within the indicated term. The time consumed starting from submitting the application up to registering the trademark is approximately 9-12 months.
It is necessary to attach the following documents to the application with the request to register trademark in Liberia:
