Current United Bank represents two banks merged with almost 300 years of impressive history. In 1882, United Bank was established in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Rockville Bank started its operation in 1858, declaring $175 in total assets. Twenty local businessmen assembled and incorporated the new bank to serve the financial needs of the Rockville, Connecticut, community. The primary objective was to provide home loans to Rockville neighbours. 21st century banking demanded more. So did customers and shareholders. And the two Banks responded. On November 15, 2013, Rockville Bank and United Bank announced their plans for a merger of equals, and the promise to deliver first-class community banking while remaining a compelling alternative to mega-banks.
